RICHARD MOWERY

Interviewer: What is your name and can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

Mowery: “My name is Richard Henry Mowery. I’m 79 years. I went to school to be a machinist, and I worked for General Motors and so forth.

I: When did you join the military?

M: “I joined in 1963. I signed up at the recruiters for the Marine Corp Reserve. I didn’t want to be drafted because I didn’t want to be a part of the military police in the Army. I also couldn’t swim so I didn’t want to join the Navy, and I avoided the Air Force because of my vision.”

I: How many years did you serve?

M: “I went from 1963-1969, and then I left the Marines. Eventually, I joined the National Guard in 1983 and served there till 2003.

I: Where did you serve?

M: “Paris Island was where I did my bootcamp. Then I went to camp in North Carolina.”

I: Why should people consider purchasing our shirt?

M: Well, the shirts have a great meaning to them, and they come from Grace College as well. It’s great for promotion too. It has a meaningful verse that goes with it as well. It’s a good thing to get started.

I: How do you think that Toys for Tots has made an impact?

M: The marines used to do a lot for that. We used to set them all around in different places like the bowling alleys.  At one time, we used to even repair the toys, but then they went brand new. Toys for Tots are great for the kids, and I have supported that for a long time.
